After a visit to the historic Pahoa town, the beautiful Lava Tree Park awaits us. At the easternmost part of the island, we travel to the Kapoho Bay and tide pools. The air is as pristine here than any in the world and the Ahalanui pools are volcanically heated up to 91-95 degrees! Let's take a few moments for a quick dip....
Down the road is the recently dedicated new Isaac Hale Beach Park, a true local surf spot.
Driving along the scenic Red Dirt Road we pass through lava stretches with gigantic waves crashing and awesome tunnel-like flora, as well as fauna and trees.
Entering the former village of Kalapana is humbling and inspirational as we walk 1/2 mile to the newest Black Sand Beach in the world. Let's plant a coconut tree. Looking up towards the Pu'u 'O'o vent we can see the burning from Madame Pele's recent lava flows.
We then visit a Noni Farm and the historic Painted Church, the Star of the Sea.
After our tour we return to Hilo relaxed...
